Open source SDLC tools

Hi,

I am looking for an OS SDLC tool, for requirements tracking and traceability, defect tracking and resolution. It would be good to have some elements of workflow (particularly around defect tracking, although not limited to this). Also to be able to export requirements to word document (a la test link, which is very good but does not do defect tracking).

Is there such a thing? Or is this my calling in designing and building the most awesome SDLC tool ever?

It can't be your calling, because if it was, you'd already be aware of all the current, inferior, offerings.

My advice is to pick one more or less at random, and see what it doesn't do that you wish it did. As it is, you've got no real idea what you need from a tool.

Trac might be a nice starting point.

I was looking for advice from anyone that has used an open sores tool that might deliver the 80%.

I've used (and administered a bit) Trac, Bugzilla, Jira, FogBugz, etc but never even heard the acronym SDLC. If you explain in English what you actually want, maybe more people might be able to help.

Why's it have to be OS? Does it have to be one tool wrapping EVERYTHING from requirements capture to bug-tracking to code review or can you combine multiple tools which each specialise in different things.

I doubt many OS people are going to volunteer their time if you can't even give minimum respect to avoid slagging OS off in the first place.

Ahhh. That still doesn't say "bug tracking tool" to me.

Client Co use Eventum, which is kind of okay, but it seems to be an inferior version of Bugzilla. Bugzilla I have used at several clients, which would be the one I'd choose, although I have a horrible feeling it's based on perl which is never good. No idea if you can export in the way you want, but this being OS, there's bound to be a seperate half-finished project to do so.

None of these things are really very complicated or clever. I suggest you write your own SLDC tool, then go round selling it to the sort of people that are impressed by acronyms.

As a bug-tracker Bugzilla is more than adequate but it doesn't really do much else. Jira on the other hand is the behemoth in this space, it does great bug-tracking but also a ton of things like release schedules, versions, reporting tools... on top of this there are a million plugins, some official ones, as well as integrated extra tools for the project-management side, especially if you're into Agile. But it's not OS - however the plugin system means you can still create your own functionality, and the level of customization it provides is pretty great/excruciating (depending how much time you put into learning it).

I'd be pretty sure no OS tool does everything, or eve close. I'm not sure any paid product does, even, though Jira must come close. FogBugz is pretty cool as well
