If you external drive is big enough, back everything up onto it and flatten the box. Repartion and reformat as you wish and restore from the USB.

You can mount a partition as a directory on win2000 or above.

Thats what I was hoping to avoid :-(

I might just try compressing it.

If you want to do it without formatting and reinstalling, buy Partition Magic. It will do partitioning on the fly. It is one of the few apps I have actually bought legally and legitimately, and it is brilliant. From memory it is around £30, which has to be better than formatting and reinstalling all your apps and stuff. Otherwise, you can take a ghost image of C currently, install a new hard disk and re-image it. You won't be able to change the partition sizes on your existing disk without losing data (unless you buy Partition Magic, obviously). Don't forget with Ghost you will also need a boot disk with the drivers to connect to wherever you have the image file stored. For jobs like these, it's not as simple as it sounds. Do a google for "Barts network boot disk" or something similar if you need a good boot-disk site, although there are others.

It was at this point I went out and bought Partition Magic.

Why not buy a big disk and make c d.

                  Cheers all,

Looks like partition magic it will have to be.

Of course now I'm permie I have to try and persuade somebody to let me expense PM. They would probably prefer I spent 3 days sending back to IT services who will then just reforat it and return with nothing on, then I have to reinstall all my development software etc.....

Why can't you convert the basic disks to dynamic disks? Then you can assign a logical drive to several disks (disk spanning) or concat the existing partitions/volumes.
