    Problems With Bt Broadband

Just finished a callout to a client with problems connecting to broadband through shared connection on a network on a netgeat router /ASDL line.

Spent two hours setting a new router up and factory resetting.

Took two hours of screaming down the phone to BT for them to admit that the problem was their end and they used every excuse not to log a complain from "have you checked its plugged in" !*"&$*£&$*! to "check the router make"
Unbelievable?? Anyone else dealt with these lunatics.

Also, what are peoples opinion on working in callcentres and about the people working there?

    They can only read scripts!

Seen both sides of call centres, had to work in one when I was a trainee years ago. It is true that they read from scripts or just search a knowledge base and generally not technical either. The support centre I was at had a policy of not having technically suitable people on the support desk - because they were always getting poached by those they were supposed to be supporting. In fact the 2 girls I worked with were hairdressers by trade and knew nothing about what they were reading.

I can understand having the really technical people in the background so they don't get poached but putting the blame on the customer I really detest - as BT did to me last year.

At the end of the day, most call centres pay the people who answer the phone NMW or not much above. You've not going to get anyone with any technical savvy for that sort of money. Realistically, you're only just likely to get someone who can read.

I used to have to work with the BT network bods - they are fcuking clueless even when dealing with their own internal networks.

I had loads of probs with my netgear router when I bought it. It would drop the connection at various intervals. I had to update the firmware with a beta copy from netgear. It truly was a bag of cack. It is stable as you like now and will remain up for days on end. Prior to the update it wouldn't last longer than 40 mins, and usually dropped after a couple of minutes.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

          I preferred version 1!

Used a Netgear ADSL router for years and never had a problem. Got D-Link kit for my wireless bits, can't remember why I opted for them I think there was an offer on at the time!

I used to be with BT for ADSL and their 'tech support' was a nightmare. OneTel are another company to be avoided like the plague. I'm now with Nildram and they're really good. Rarely have a connection problem and when I have done, they've resolved it quickly and followed up with emails to confirm it all.
