    Wireless router

Since I connected the Wii at Christmas it keeps kicking me off. Signal drops to nothing, then comes back and re-leases IP. Chuffing annoying. Especially when presenting a Web Ex session.

This is a Belkin N1 Draft router for around £130 but I am not impressed.

Can anyone recommend a "business grade" wireless router?

    None of yer Netgear rubbish.

Best I've found is the cheap as chips Thomson. Yes, I've tried the posh Netgears, BT Voyager, and Drayteks but none perform as well as the cheapo Thomson on my wet string ADSL line.

Didn't we ascertain the cause was the bloke next door and his SETI-like array of radio-emitting equipment?
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.

I did a sweep for networks using inSSIDER and I was sharing channel six with someone nearby. Switched to channel 3 which is clear (until mission control start ******* around again next door) Crumbs I do sound like Wilmslow.

If it keeps on I'm switching to mains networking dohickeys.

...which are very good. Need to get more of those for my house as am sick of wireless. Tried playing Modern Warfare 2 on the PS3 online tonight and it kept losing network every 5 mins. My laptop has started to do the same, v.annoying.

Just a thought but make sure firmware is up to date. Had connection issues in the past with various routers and an update sorted it most times.

I seem to remember reading you need to be at 6 channels away from another to completely remove (or reduce to the maximum) any interference.

Might be worth a try. I've since always stuck to this and not had a problem (also a Draytek and Linksys user).

Draytek Vigor 2800 series - industrial strength - no prbs with it at all.

If you need it to be reliable get the Wii ethernet adapter or use a couple of Homeplugs.

I try to avoid wireless if possible but my current personal laptop WiFi adapter seems to work well at around 150 Mbit/s with my router, a Billion 7800N.

Make sure you get kit that supports dual channel (20 and 40 MHz). At 20MHz I could only get about 70Mbit/s.
