Draytek Vigor 2800 series - industrial strength - no prbs with it at all.

I've migrated all my friends to Drayteks, after their no end of problems with Netgears and Belkins.

Not heard a complaint since, and believe me, I'm the first to know, usually at 2 am when they call coz they can't get their pron.

In fact, I get so fed up recommending Drayteks, that I think Draytek should put an advertisement in various papers and magazine, saying :

"Draytek : Because it just DOES fething Work"

Would save me having to keep repeating myself.

Just switched to a DrayTek Vigor2710n, no problems so far.

Quality piece of kit. Set up in under 15 mins with breathless ease. And surfing is faster.

Obviously my router has been on its last legs for a while.

I mentioned to Neighbour I had noticed that his wireless network is only WEP encrypted and he might consider switching to WPA2 standard.

He insisted his WEP encryption is strong enough.

Well, that's that mystery solved. A dicky wifi router.

Can you get it replaced for free and see if a replacement behaves better?

Here we go. I've been monitoring the wireless all day. It just dropped off now I've moved into the lounge.

LiveboxE658 (nobface next door) has normally got a quieter signal, but at the time you can see my red trace drop to nothing (see left hand pane at 18:32)

When the signal comes back the Livebox and my network are similar signal strengths.

What does this tell us? Why did my signal drop to 0??

Router has now died. Won't even boot up.

Reckon I'll go for a mains network doohickey. Wireless blows.

Since I connected the Wii at Christmas it keeps kicking me off. Signal drops to nothing, then comes back and re-leases IP. Chuffing annoying. Especially when presenting a Web Ex session.

This is a Belkin N1 Draft router for around £130 but I am not impressed.

Can anyone recommend a "business grade" wireless router?

None of yer Netgear rubbish.

Interesting; I have been having trouble with my wireless network since before Christmas, and, I hadn't thought about it before, but that would be about the same time I got a (new) Wii connected up. Haven't had any problems with home wireless for the five or six years I've been using it, including with the old Wii (which now resides with the ex Mrs); can the Wii cause these sorts of problems? Anyone know why?

The original question was about a Wii, for which there are other options. I've got two PS/3's and a Wii all using wired connections.

an ipod Touch is an iPhone without the phone network - it will only work with Wifi, yes I have the Wii connected on wired as well and it works a treat.

Of course the wife thinks I am backward not having a wireless router in the house - well the reasons are the continual drop-outs, blackspots and also the garden office is 70 feet away plus with young children in the house I would rather not fry their brains. This all goes in one ear and out the other to everyone else though.

If you need it to be reliable get the Wii ethernet adapter or use a couple of Homeplugs.

I try to avoid wireless if possible but my current personal laptop WiFi adapter seems to work well at around 150 Mbit/s with my router, a Billion 7800N.

Make sure you get kit that supports dual channel (20 and 40 MHz). At 20MHz I could only get about 70Mbit/s.
