first mobile phone for a 9yr old girl

9yr old daughter is asking for a mobile for 'emergency use'.

Any recommendations for a suitable first phone? We'd probably get it on PAYG.

OH wants to get her an iphone as her cousin in America has got their 9yr daughter one - I told her no way.
This default font is sooooooooooooo boring and so are short usernames

      Skypephone from 3.

Don't bother with any credit, just tell her to Skype you in an emergency - problem solved.

Get her one of these: http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4...-/Product.html

Should live up to whatever a 9 year old can throw at it.
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

But better than having to replace their broken phone every few weeks

It would be mighty suspicious if they only "broke" their phones in the run up to a birthday / christmas. You'd have to give them credit for trying though

Who cares about cool - if she wants a cool one, then she needs to come up with a better argument than "it's for emergencies", IMHO.

I'm already looking forward to these discussions with my children.
