I have been plagued with modem/router problems ever since having an ADSL internet connection, maybe ~5 years ago. Firstly, I had two Netgear Routers which both kept dropping their connection despite all the lights on the modem saying a connection was present. It came to light, eventually, that the Netgear routers had chipset compatibility problems in the UK on long loop length telephone lines. So I bought a BT2110 modem/router (recommended by the ISP) which was just fine for about 18 months and it then started dropping connections. The “DSL” light on the front panel just kept flashing but the modem wouldn’t connect. Thinking that it was faulty, I bought another BT2110 which has been just fine for 13 months now but has just started disconnecting and flashing the front panel “DSL” light again. If I buy another new router, this will be the fifth one in ~5 years so I need to get it right this time. The line has been tested umpteen times and is said to be good both by the ISP and by BT. What does the experts panel think please? Thanks.

The DrayTek Vigor range have a good reputation for reliability, but that comes at a price premium.Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?Comment

I have a Draytek Vigor 2820n which I haven't had to touch in months. Prior to that I had my ISP's router (a thomson whatever) which kept rebooting twice a day..well actually it would crash and I had to power cycle it.
Can't say if it would solve your problem though. How hot was it running?

Thanks, the ISP (VISPA) offers Thompson, I'll forget that then. Actually, Mrs Bloggs said it has been running very hot. I hadn't noticed. If Draytek is really that good I should have bought one of those rather than the 4 others I have had this last 5 years.Public Service Posting by the BBC - Bloggs Bulls**t Corp.

That all singing, all dancing Draytek looks the dogs danglies. I'm very impressed by the spec and it's features. A bit pricey though, about £140.
I have seen this DrayTek Vigor 2700 Series for about £90. I wonder if this would be similar quality without the bells and whistles of the more expensive device?Public Service Posting by the BBC - Bloggs Bulls**t Corp.

Have you tried changing your ADSL filter? I had a cheapo one that gave me noise on the phone and the ADSL connection would take a while to connect. Changing it for a supposedly better one fixed both problems. Will work inside IR35. Or for food.Comment
