Had a Draytek 2600v for something like 6 years, and can honestly say I have only rebooted it about 3 or 4 times.

Good kit, but as others have said, pricey

True. Our line was so noisy a BT technicial had to come out and sort the problem.

I have seen this DrayTek Vigor 2700 Series for about £90. I wonder if this would be similar quality without the bells and whistles of the more expensive device?
The 2820 handles the Annex A which O2 and BeThere are using to acheive those fast speeds. I get 20Mbps down and 2.5Mbps up. But if you are on a standard ISP you won't need that, so yes the 2700 should manage.

Thanks for the suggestion we have a BT iPlate (I think that is what it is called) so there isn't a seperate filter. We have tried the test socket with a filter. Exactly the same. Cheers.

Yes, we had that happen about 18 months ago. The BT bloke fitted a new master socket with an iPlate (I think that's what it's called). It's been fine till last weekend. We always get a connection in the morning and through most of the day. But we haven't got a connection after 5.00pm. Our ISP (VISPA) who are very good people are lending us a new modem to try.

Thanks, the most we can get is 512kb, over a wet string phone line.

Ive had a Draytek Vigor now for 6 or 7 years (jeez, might need to start looking at new routers), in all that time i've reboot it 2 or 3 times whenever ive done a firmware upgrade and that was only because I saw it collecting dust and thought "it MUST need updating by now".

They are the most reliable thing I've ever had, even outlasted 2 girlfriends.

Highly recommended, if you buy cheap, you buy twice, Vigors cost more than the average but are def worth it.

something like this would be slight overkill but ideal

Thank you. I foresee a Draytek modem/router in my future.

Yes, but I can say the same about my Netgear router. The first 11Mb one I had wasn't as good, but the second 54G one I've had for 3 or 4 years now has been perfect.

Most people aren't going to gain anything by paying three times as much.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

I had two Netgear boxess, both were rubbish for our situation because they had a chipset (called AR7 I think?) that eventually they found out wouldn't work properly with long loop length wet string type UK telephone lines. I gather that both Netgear and BT covered up this fact for a long while. Hence, I efectively was conned into buying a 2nd Netgear box when the 1st one started losing connections. Never again will I buy Netgear, thanks.
