    Mail hosting

I need to sign up to an email host for personal use. Had a trawl through the previous threads here & came up with the following shortlist. I can't decide which one to go for, so thought I'd run a poll to see who comes out on top.

    Requirements are:

    - IMAP (will be accessing from laptop, home, phone, etc)
    - Mail hosting only (domain + mail hosting packages are more expensive)

I had toyed with the idea of running a home mail server, as I scrounged an old Dell poweredge box from somewhere, but the cost of making it redundant & also running costs seems to make using a hosting company a more viable option.

    TIA.

WHS - gmail works perfectly well for me.

+1 for gmail - it can also do domain masquerading so email looks to be coming from yourco.co.uk

gmail - here too. have it suck of email from the mail hosting I have and combine with other accounts. It holds a lot more e-mail that the hosting I pay for. Which is why I use it.

Well, I never even considered gmail - have just had a look at it. Seems I can do IMAP okay, and send 'from' gmail, masquerading as mydomain.co.uk.

So, I guess I still need to host mydomain.co.uk somewhere else & have gmail retrieve it - any suggestions where I can do this.

                gmail looks promising - thanks.

Just have whoever is hosting your domain forward mail on to [email protected]

I'm not sure it always masques the email address. I found that it did in some cases but not in others with the From address being something like From: [email protected] on behalf of [email protected].

Could have had something to do with which client software the recipient was using. Can't remember now.

I used Instant Mail from 1and1.co.uk before transferring to a hosting package. Instant Mail is only around 70p/month
