    Microsoft Office

I need to get hold of MS Office 2003 for a friend/client as the stupid git has lost his original DVD

I need Word, Excel, PPT and Outlook and I need to be able to install it on 3 machines.

    A) which version do I need?
    B) what/where is the cheapest way to get it?

    cheers

you might be abkle to get a copy off of Ebay for not much money, but of course it may not be a legit copy. So you could fork out for a new version which can be pricey. The cheapest way I've found of getting Office and Project is by becoming a Microsfot Partner for something like £200 a year and get the Action Pack. (bearing in mind that full retail for Office plus Project is £343 (on sale) for Office and £469 for Project.)

You get about 20 licences for varying versions of Vista,
10 licences each for Office, Project, Visio, Sharepoint, and Outlook
and a ton of other bits and pieces including server side stuff.

And yes I know you could in theory buy the student edition for cheaper or indeed use Open Office for Free.

You should, however, note that the Action Pack licenses are for internal development use only, and you're not allowed to give/sell them on to customers.

Sorry, yes, I should have pointed that out.

If the bloke still has his legit software license number surely he can download the software from a torrent site or something and activate it using his legit license number? That would be legal?

Serious question: if your copy is legit and you have a licence key, but then you trash your copy and don't have a disk, is it not 100% legit to obtain a disk elsewhere and use your key?

Yes I believe so. The model is that you pay for the license - not the software. If you have a valid license and license key then it should not matter a jot where the software comes from.

Although I bet this is not the case in law.

This is suddenly of interest to me as The Boy started eating (for reasons best know to him) CDs & DVDs last night, chomping his way through my Vista and Office DVDs.
