    Vista or XP?

I've got an XP desktop and a Vista laptop.

I was considering upgrading my desktop to Vista, but I'm not convinced it does anything more beneficial other than increase incompatibility with my installed programs, uses 700mb of ram with just the OS running, and annoys the sh*t out of me with the jumbled up user interface/file navigation.

    Long live XP?

My brother tried Windows 7 and said it was better..

File searching is faster, hmmm, that's it.

    Stick with XP.

It is until you switch off the behind-the-scenes-indexing because that causes it to take forever to copy files around.

So shouldn't the poll options be:

        XP
        Windows 7
        AndyW

        ?

          XP for now.

Vista if you have to - it has improved over its initial fail.

If you can wait, and you're stuck in the unfortunate situation of having to use Microsoft operating systems, Windows 7.

Windows 7 will still be epic fail as an OS, but as a Microsoft OS it will be a major improvement.

If your going to upgrade i'd wait for windows 7, or the time when windows 7 is a free upgrade from vista.

I have 7 on my laptop at the moment and I think it's great.

Ah, so that's why pasting took so blooming long...

Long live XP! Does all I need it to - why would I want to change?

Why is everybody convinced 7 is great and Vista is pants? It's the same OS with a different task bar.

Resource meter is quite good in Vista, and Aero is quite useful too. But I'm not sure it offers any significant advantage over XP, but then neither is it any significant disadvantage, at least not now there's a service pack and decent application and driver support.

I'm quite happy with my copy of Vista and I'm convinced the 64 bit versions are a lot more stable than 32-bit because I've had no problems.

It does however seem to be stupid to upgrade to vista now when windows 7 is just around the corner and if you wait until July you will be eligible for a free upgrade anyway....

I'm sure XP is good enough for another 6 months!!!!!
