    ADSL router

    Hi there,

Do you know if the Wireless Actiontec DSL Gateway is compatible with NTL broadband? I am using it at the moment with UKonline broadband over a BT telephone line and works ok, but i am thinking of switching to NTL and i wonder if i need to buy a new wireless router as well.

Or all routers are the same?

    Thanks

Cable and telephone modems are different.

You wil need a cable specific modem. You could always use the NTL modem and put a router on that then connect your it to the router, Thats what I do.

        Actiontec

I'm using the Actiontec wireless router with NTL. Not particularly impressed with it but it does work.

1 word of warning, NTL customer services are dreadful!! Worst I've ever come across.

            Ntl

Quite right that cable modems differ to ADSL modems (BT phone line). If the Actiontec is just a router/firewall/switch then it'll work with NTL assuming you can use a CAT5 type connector between your NTL modem and the Actiontec box. Check the NTL modem doesn't just a have USB connector.

Once they get enough customers they will go down the pan like all the rest.

Not sure about the 8MB for £15 pm - that's their 1mb rate. Also your line needs to be capable of handling the 8MB to start with.

Nope - I'm waiting for the 512kb - 1MB uploading speeds to start happening, then I'll bother to do fancier stuff with my website.

Isnt there a 20MB service now? Sure I saw an ad or a press release a few days ago.
