My new printer's broken...

Is there a test print button on the printer, or a way to print from the printer without using the drivers? Not that that would likely help either way

My new printer doesn't have a Linux driver and, as I've discovered with most of my hardware, doesn't work in this OS. I still default and boot into Ubuntu most of the time though

I bought it from the Canon refurb shop on eBay so unfortunately have no shop to take it back to.

I just unpacked and put together my spangly new Canon MP510 scanner/printer/copier thingy and it looks very pretty.

Then I tried to use it. It goes through all the motions of printing, except it's not laying any ink on the paper. All four cartridges are brand new, so I'm guessing it's not them, but it has a separately installed print head, which I suspect to be the problem.

Does the congregation have any advice on how to fix before I phone Canon and get cross?

I plugged my 610 in on Saturday for the first time and it worked straight out of the box
