Running Tom Tom 6 on my MDA Vario II...very good so long as you keep the maps current. I've previously run with Tom Tom 5 for 2 years without a single map update...that was good also but you kinda had to have a 6th sense to not wind up doing a bum steer

After plucking through the Garmin site and deciding that I want a large display and street names in the voice prompts - Looks like the Garmin Nuvi 255WT fits the bill....Now to wait at it is not available until May 15!

I think it had Europe mapping so wonder if there is a place on the continent which would sell it cheaper what what it is here..currently I think its about £180-£220ish...and I just wonder if the UK price is a bit high.

Pah! I have a stick on compass and a traffic alert thing I got for £2.40 in a charity shop. The only sensible criteria to apply to anything is how cheap it is.

Problem with Garmin is they only update the UK maps once every 20 yrs.

I know, I've got one and half the new flyovers and roundabouts are missing.

Cheaper than the Pioneer at £630~ and by all accounts a very good system. Also doubles up as a DVD player and will accept one of these:

Mine can't find her way off our street and when she drives the pedal is to the floor and my wallet get a whole heck of a lot lighter very quickly.

Anyone looking for a sat nav has to consider the Navigo range.

You can easily hack* into them to access the underlying Windows CE (version 5) and install other sat nav software using SD cards if you're not happy with the TurboDog software that comes with it. The reviews I read on eBuyer suggest Tom Tom 6 and MioMap is fully compatible. Also plays MP3/MP4. For the price I think it's unbeatable.
