I don't have that many photo's to worry about so I havn't played with iPhoto much.

Started using Entourage also then it begun duplicating emails that were kept in the server, was caught into the old cycle of spending time to solve a problem... that's when I switched to Mail, simpler and never had a problem since.

My only issue is not being able to import .pst files...such a pain...

          Anyone used Time Machine yet?

I need to get an external hard disk first - any recommendations?

As for an external HD, I got a 750MB Maxtor One Touch mainly for the FireWire interface.
waiting fr the upgrade pack to arrive before I can use it, still on Tiger atm.

Once I get I was planning on using my old PC as a backup host. Plenty of disk space on it once I clear out all the old apps I don't need on it anymore. Unless there is a reason I can't do this of course.

I couldn't get TM to see the shares on my NAS - I think this is due to be resolved but hasn't yet.

I've got a 500GB MyBook with a FW800 interface doing the job at the moment.

Found this that looks like it sorts the problem.

Thanks for the tip. I was having a look at the Maxtor drives & noted that you can get them in either FireWire 400 or 800.

Would the speed difference matter much, if I were to use it mainly for time machine (i.e. backups)?

My iMac is just over a year old, anyone know if this would support FireWire 800 or how I can check?

I am looking at the 2TB NAS but they do not seem to add Mac OS as supported operating systems.....

Yep I had to switch to Thunderbird + Lightening. Entourage Calendar does handle DST to well.
Would have stuck to Mail + iCal but those damned Outlook users can't handle the meeting invites.
