Not sure if its my eyes or not but have the satellite pictures in Googles Maps recently got better in terms of the how close they look at max focus ? I can see the washing line in my back garden, can also see people walking ! Pretty impressive, slightly invasive

The images are constantly being updated so as they get newer higher res versions they go into the system.
I've got google maps on my phone and the resolution you get on that is really rather impressive."Being nice costs nothing and sometimes gets you extra bacon" - Pondlife. -
Agreed - when it was first launched, you couldn't make out anything near me, since they obviously decided that there was nothing interesting in the countryside.
Now, you can pick out the cars easily on the driveway.
Having it on your phone is great when you get lost, as I frequently do in London.Comment

Isn't there a Microsoft version of this which has 3D views? I think I remember seeing it on the last series of the Gadget show?

http://local.live.com is the Microsoft equivalent. Much better for close up images and you can turn the view to look from the North,South,East or West.Comment

Over the last few months whole swathes of the UK satellite imagery have been upgraded to higher resolutions. Zeity clearly has influence and "persuaded" them to lose the hi-res imagery near his centre of operations...
Sadly they've also fixed the excellent effect created at Edmonton in Canada, where parts of the place were in bright summer sunshine while adjacent districts were covered in deep snow: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/08...h_two_seasons/Comment
