Copying to a new Windows 11 PC

Want to copy necessary files from my old Windows 10 PC to my new Windows 11 PC, preferably from the former in my comfortable office. Googled it all and done everything one is supposed to do but keep getting "You need permission to perform this action"

I've done
a) Checked workgoups are same name.
b) In the folder share tab selected "Give access to everyone"
c) In folder properties set Full Control to everyone
c) Set Ethernet to private on both machines

Sure some other CUKers have done this migration, so wonder if any ideas. Cheers for any suggestions.

When do you get that error message? E.g. are you able to map a network drive to the Windows 10 share on the Windows 11 PC? Can you see the files? Is the error when you try to copy across? Can you open the documents in their current location (i.e. is it a read or write error)?

As a more general point, the simplest option would be to use OneDrive. I.e. sync all your data files from the Windows 10 PC to the cloud, then sync them back to the Windows 11 PC.

I can open files normally in current location and can see all the files on the other computer from both sides, just problem when I try to copy from 10 to 11 PC.

OneDrive is a good suggestion if I can't sort the problem, thanks hobnob.

Yeh! I did that map network drive thing and it all works now. None of the stuff I found on Google mentioned that. Thanks so much hobnob.

Could have gone old school and used the sneaker net if you had a floppy drive on each machine.

Yeah, that's another option. Although nowadays more likely to be a USB memory stick (or external hard drive) rather than a floppy disk
