          Freezer idea didnt work. If anything disk clicked even louder. Weird since disk is spinning.

            At uni I worked on a computer helpdesk we got this all the time. Mostly ladies coming in with the old 1.44MB disks that where literally falling apart with their entire 4 years' work + dissertation on it with no backup whatsoever. Cue many tears.
