If they work out what language it is in they just find someone who knows the language to reverse engineer it and modify it, even if that person hasn't used the language for a few years.

If you want to make it difficult for them to do that then use a random Javascript library as there is a shortage of good front-end developers...

I agree up to a point, but I have known people kept on purely because they are the only one that kknows a system.

There was one contractor, here at client co, that managed to do this contracting for 25 years .

I'll go and learn how to code it if i have to or get a PPH coder to rattle it together from my spec. I was just interested in if anyone had used a decent WYSIWYG app dev environment or had any alternatives that a technical <all be it not a coder> person could have a go at using.

I guess it depends on exactly you want to do? For example if you want to create an app that runs in the Apple ecosystem, you can write it in Swift. If you want it to run on both Apple and Android devices you may be better off writing in JavaScript & HTML5 and using a framework such as Ionic, PhoneGap or maybe even React Native.

If I've bruised your pride, i apologise... I've been called worse in my areas of expertise as a term of affection.
I didn't realise we were still working under union 'job demarcation' rules where i had to hire a union bound programmer to do my work... I'll need to check that before I proceed.

I don't get how you think I'm belittling anyone, I have no delusions of grandeur and fully understand anything I 'knocked up in a WYSWIG env would be a poor cousin to a professionally designed and implemented product.

Others: I appreciate your feedback looks like I'll have to outsource the development of what I want to do. As an aside do you think thelack of suitable tools like I'm after is due to a circling of the waggons in the programming world or is it just a really difficult thing to do well?

I have a few ideas for web based apps that could help current client out, I know how they would hang together but i'm looking for something to start realising the idea.
Had a look at some of the offerings google threw up but they all seem to be based on a model where they host the finished app for you. I'd be looking for something i could stick up on aws or host internally.

Any ideas?

Complexity = Not Very, however I'd like it to be able to trigger work flow items based on dates and other items in the records
O/S = No preference. It will end up in AWS so pretty flexible on this one.
