Does anyone have any good reasons for or against deploying Hadoop on virtual machines vs physical. Looking for justification for going physical other than 'everyone else does it'

Personally I really don't see the point. Its just easier to keep everything virtual...merely at clientco for the entertainment -
I can tell you that GPFS doesn't work well on a virtualised environment, so I suspect the less mature HDFS won't either.Last edited by stek; 26 April 2015, 12:45.Comment

A direct 1 to 1 mapping on vmware to physical host? Otherwise isn't having extra real cores kind of the whole point?Comment
