    I can tell you that GPFS doesn't work well on a virtualised environment, so I suspect the less mature HDFS won't either.

    Isn't the reason for physical the age old one that its just gives you that additional x% of performance.

    Personally I really don't see the point. Its just easier to keep everything virtual...
