You can't use a bind variable as a table name directly in sql server (or Oracle). You need to build your query as a string and execute that.

Which is what I said in post #4.

    And repeated in post #21.

And illustrated simply in post #22.

However, if you still believe you can, then we'll agree to differ.

And were back to arguing different points again

What you're missing is placeholders. The whole thread is about placeholders.

So I can create a string, with placeholders, including placeholders for the table name.

This has nothing to do with parameterised queries. Then of course you have to hard code the table name.

You jumped in from the get go, got the wrong end of the stick, argued for the sake of just to be able to kick Suity on a technical point.

We will not differ, only in our understanding of the thread.

Bollocks. I never attempted to 'kick suity'. Stop playing the fricking victim.

My post agreed with FaQQer that you could not "use that syntax for passing in the table name.". As a point of interest I mentioned that it is the same in other DBMS, such as sql server. You then laughed which I ignored, then later implied that LE and I were the "butt of a joke", i.e. we were idiots.

You've pissed me off now, so I'm outta here.

But the exact, exact fricking example SHOWS you doing precisely that syntax.

Right. I realise this is a contentious thread. It wasn't started as such and I'm sure noone actually cares since the original problem was solved admirably by the Faqqer.

What does concern me is that posters (such as MS) stagger in here with clearly no expertise whatsovever (in Oracle) and start making a peanut gallery of the forum, with their wildly innappropriate posts about alternative DBMSs.

If you look at the original post, I mean actually read the fecking thing, you will note :

                    a)

It is already about building dynamic strings to execute

                    b)

                    It is about Oracle

So at this point 2 things should be abundantly clear :

                    1) This has nothing to do with parameterised queries
                    2) This has nothing to do with SQL Server.

Sadly, however the peanut gallery has not only tossed in their peanuts, but also tossed their toys out of the pram completely inappropriately.

My best advise is, if you see a topic in Technical you don't have at least 2 years experience in, don't post.
