Just noticed it's now down to 64, despite one being added last week. That's 5 off in 2 weeks, which does seem very strange - maybe there is something wrong there?

Fortunately, it wasn't my friends new company removed

Just taking a moment to play devil's advocate here. Just because a company disappears from the list is not evidence that they are doing anything dodgy. There is a financial burden on the umbrella that comes from being a member (don't forget Saferec exists to make its owners money despite their lofty ideals) and in these days of squeezed umbrella margins, some may decide that the return does not justify the cost.

Perhaps WalterWhite could search on here for the umbrellas he is referring to, to see if there are any threads about them that might make a contractor wary.
    Nothing I can find?

I've always kept a vague eye on the Saferec list but it seems that there's been a lot of movement recently so I'm taking more notice.

Since last week, Churchill Knight and Payday Cloud have both gone off the list. Both still have the Saferec logo on their websites so may be nothing more than an admin issue.

I seem to remember that part of the Saferec service is that they inform their members if any umbrella lose other accreditations - not sure if there is anything similar done by FCSA for example to keep an eye on the Saferec list.....

He was with an umbrella that told him they were coming off saferec due to a data breach at saferec, he was made to sign up with another company on the saferec list, he did and now they have come off saferec saying there was a data breach at saferec

The list is now down to 65 on their website, so something must be up as seems odd they would be losing companies when you'd think they'd be adding them

OK, are you saying that there has been a data breach at Saferec, or that there has been a data breach at a company that used to be listed by them and because that company had a data breach, then Saferec no longer lists them.
You've worded it in a way that could imply that Saferec had a breach, but worded it in such a way that it is ambiguous. You seem happy to name Saferec, but not the umbrella that could have been the one that had the data breach.

Also worth saying that the umbrella got new owners on 10th December 2025...
