Assuming the chap is not planning to launch a new Tescos, not sure if all these "what do you want it for?" questions are that relevant.

A number of popular hosters like 123reg or Hostpapa can cater for quite a variety of sites, they are not targeted to any specific company size. Lots of tiny companies use them but they provide Gigabytes of free storage They also have all the facilities, PHP5 and other languages, Curl, MySQL, virus protection and lots of free add ins like Wordpress, shop carts etc etc, that most small businesses could ever need.

I've used DiscountASP in the past though moving most of my sites to Azure. Can't fault DiscountASP though and even if you cancel they usually refund for the period not used. If you check out their website you can see all the features they offer along with prices.

WTMS (What Test Mangler Said), If we had a slight clue what you decided you needed a hosting company for then we could help much better..

For example, if I were to ask "i need advice for a good shop, what do you recommend?" do you think that would get me as good an answer in comparrison to "I need advice for a good hardware shop whereby I can buy reclaimed Oak Wood"

In your case if you are looking to host a simple poster website with no frills and your CV then that differs a huge amount to a scalable website that is essential that is up 24/7, expects to have a lot of traffic, a shopping cart, php/SQL scripts with links to twitter and dropbox and the ability to grant others sub domain website space..

    more info needed.

If it helps I also use Hostgator and I have no complaints, but I guess my needs are far different to yours.. but perhaps not..

Apologies, the question seemed so ******* dumb I didn't think it could be real.

What are you installing on it ? Shopping cart ? Wordpress/Joomla ? Database driven booking system ?

A couple of HTML pages with a picture of a rabbit ?

If you give the assembled throng even a vague idea of what you're trying to do, you might get some sensible answers

How on Earth can anyone help you if you don't know what you need. Are looking to use Linux or Windows? PHP / MySQL? Need Ruby etc?

For what it's worth, I use HostGator and have the reseller package because it's cheap, feature rich and their support are very good.
