I ended up running W8 through parallels but everything I've read says using bootcamp will work very well. It certainly did with earlier versions.

And I've had no issues with W8 itself on my 13" MacBook screen. I was ready to spend £4.99 on a tool to make it look more like W7 but see no real need.

Reason for question: I use a MacBook Pro. I want to run Sage payroll on it. So I need to buy Windows and install it. I want to know which version of Windows to buy.
I have Win 8 pro running on my Macbook pro early 2011. Apple have released Bootcamp 5.0 drivers supporting windows 8, so it's ok now. Was a bit tricky with the trackpad with the bootcamp 4.0 drivers.

I have already gone for Parallels, but haven't found the time to convert my stuff over yet.

We've had several discussions about VMware Fusion versus Parallels over the last few months - use Advanced Search with a string of "parallels fusion" and select the Technical forum to find them.

Ah. I was trying to print over the network, which I have been able to do from other non-Windows systems.

I run Win 8 in Parallels 8 on my Macbook Pro as my main VS2012/SQL development platform these days, gets more use than my desktop.

Runs perfectly, not had any issues. Assume it would be the same using Bootcamp now that they have official driver support.

yes, it works great - I installed the trial version of windows 8 on my MacBook pro. It's just a normal install, same as on any other pc and then install the bootcamp drivers. Be sure to get the bootcamp drivers whilst you are booted up into macos prior to installing windows, because there is no other way to get them.
I never use mac os on my MacBook pro, its a purely windows pc. Prior to windows 8, I ran windows 7 on it.

I use CodeWeavers Crossover to run Windows programs (using with Enterprise Architect at the moment).

Run Windows on Mac and Linux, easily and affordably

10.8.3 brought boot camp drivers for Win8 and that's the latest version though 10.8.4 is on the Dev site.

No Win8 made me sick in my mouth. The whole - touch interface on a desktop computer is just dumb in my opinion. Yes you can install a start bar, on the 'desktop view', but why should you have to. It's a retrograde step.

I'm not even vaguely surprised that Win8 does not have lots of support on Mac.

I would strongly recommend sticking with Win7 unless you have a REALLY compelling reason to go to Win8. Support on Apple kit is way more mature, and for work stuff (as opposed to play) I don't want to have to tinker too much.
Lack of mature support for Win 8 from Apple made you sick in your mouth? Really?

I had a go at installing Windows 8 on my mbp, currently run Windows 7 on boot camp. I did manage to get it to install and run but had problems with locking up and I think the trackpad didn't work correctly (can't quite remember). I'm not running the latest mac os version so that may have had something to do with it (10.8.6).

Windows 7 runs fine on my mbp in bootcamp - no issues. I know several people that have decent mbp specs that run windows 7 in a VM, that's another option.
