ADSL cant reach those speeds, what you might have is VHSDL

With cable you can and will higher speed.
Even the speeds using ADSL2+ cant compete with fibre

dyndns isn't the only one.Originally posted by stek View PostOnly thing I'd like is fixed IP, like I had with Be but dyndns fixes that so it's a non issue.
I use another free service to point a real domain name (not a dyndns assigned one) at my home system and it has worked fine for several years.

I had cable and it's far worse than BT infinity now, normally I get 62mb/up on BT. onit now let's see waht I get now, Leeds area, busy time normally, perhaps easing off now after schoolies have finished..

ADSL can't get up to speeds of 50M that fibre can.Originally posted by sasguru View PostIncorrect. I'm running Virgin and Sky in parallel, Sky (ADSL) is usable at peak times, Virgin (cable) is not.
Your latter point is probably true, but the excuse Virgin has made is that there is "over-utilisation", so obviously something similar happens with fibre (not knowing any technical details).
I wouldnt use virgin but then again I wouldnt use sky from broadband.

Good thread to ask as I am thinking of going BT Infinity (Fibre) in Jan when my O2 contract ends, any recommendations? Worth the price? Don't really want an 18mth contract, would like to haggle to 12, has any one tried this? Currently get 5-6Mbps up on ADSL2, and approx 1m from the exchange.

I was getting 16Mb/s or whatever the acronym with Bethere, but a fair amount of time where it was slow/not working/some sites not accessible - switched to BT fibre cos Be won't do it yet and other than my p2p being throttled (seed box) no issues.
Never slows, never doesn't not work, always 100% - yeah, BT, I know...
Current on 62 up/19 down...
Only thing I'd like is fixed IP, like I had with Be but dyndns fixes that so it's a non issue. Really best thing I've ever done apart from lots of other things like having kids, first orgasm etc...

6 Mbits is low but not as low as the 1-3 I regularly get with Virgin's fibre opticOriginally posted by AtW View PostGot SKY ADSL and it's tulip - 6 mbits when exchange is on the same street and I was getting 16 Mbits on BeThere whilst being 500 meters further away: it's certainly throttled, recently started getting regular disconnections around midnight.
When will these telecoms companies sort themselves out? TBH you get ripped off by all of them ...

Used Telewest previously but new build rented house is the only one on street not connected to them, which of course does not stop them from dropping enticing offers in mailbox
