I have the same setup (including a 54MBps router). I didn't run a speed test but I get the usual 10MBps download speeds I get on my desktop. Windows 7 installed a wireless driver for it when it was set up initially and despite quite a weak signal there is no problem. I used the Action Pack Windows 7 DVD to install.

You could try using Wireshark to help in the diagnosis of your networking problem. If you're not familiar with using Wireshark then I'd recommend reading Practical Packet Analysis by Chris Sanders. Even though Wireshark comes from a *nix background, it's been ported to Windows and the aforementioned book explains how to use it under both platforms.

Wasn't someone here saying that C: drives are pegged to run more slowly than other disks so that Winders could run more reliably?Originally posted by bogeyman View PostThere's a registry hack though...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Reliability\RunLikeBuggeryButCrashOften = 1
Ah, here we go:
Can someone explain the logic there to me please?NB C: drives on windows servers are deliberately slowed down for disk writes (protection against power fail), D Drive is not so expect better read / write.

I've come to the conclusion that the driver for the Atheros wireless built into the Acer Aspire R3600 is not working 100% under Windows 7.
Hopefully a proper Windows 7 driver will be released soon and it will be able to cope with more than 1 mbit bandwidth.
Googling shows lots of angry people with an Atheros wireless and slow connections.

I can definitely see how the waterproof properties will come in handy there!
