Yes, I am considering this. The router is portable, with an internal battery, so it is suited to this.

Isn't it like 5 quid a day or something depending on your provider to use all your minutes and data abroad? Even cheaper if you buy a bundle before you go? Why bugger about swapping sims around. No one else does. You've managed to take a tentative step up to a smartphone so just go the whole hog like everyone I've ever met bar one (my 89 year old mum).

Just can't see when I'd use it.

I'm retired.
In the house, I use a laptop for internet.
When not in the house, I'm doing stuff (walking the dog, mowing lawn etc) and don't need internet.
I barely use the car; once a fortnight to the local shop.
Only longer journeys I make, are to the airport going on holiday.

As a phone, I much prefer the nokia. It's compact and weighs less than half the smartphone.

The sim in my mobile broadband router has a decent monthly EU roaming data allowance.
Since I only intend to use the smart phone on holiday, it seems to make more sense to use this sim in the phone rather than fork out for another one.

Why do you have to do this?

It's purely a technical issue AIUI. You can't allow the possibility of two separate identical access points to the public network. The SIM card is the connector, not the device it's plugged into.

Instead of having to move the sim card back and forth between my wifi router and smart phone, and using a fiddly nano->standard adapter, it would be handy to have a second (duplicate) sim. Obviously you could only have one device on at a time.

A quick search on google, came up with conflicting answers. Either it's not possible because of some number encrypted on the cards, or cloning is dodgy (even illegal).

Can anyone clarify? Thanks.
