Greenhouse glass panes

I guess for a greenhouse, you don't need glass - it was only used historically as they had no other clear material handy. Plastic sheets or wrap are just as good if not better apart from aesthetics.

You can buy glass panes online easily, most glazers obviously sell double-glazing primarily but that's made from glass panes they can sell you. Some period houses still use single glazing after all.

But it sort of seems like most people get greenhouse glass from other people getting rid of theirs. We have an old hot-house (complete with downstairs boiler!) which needs a bunch of work. I am debating whether to just replace the broken panes, or have it glazed in a more house-like fashion without bits of glass butting up on each other. There's potential to use it as a garden office.

Always worth asking on Freecycle. Sort of thing people often keep lying around for years in case it comes in handy.

Nope, they just go and buy things, don't grow them.
A couple more weeks and I'll start to clear ours out in preparation for the tomatoes, then see if the un-killable rocket comes back to life and move the plants into the cold frame or some might even go into the ground.
The garlic is up already and the trees are pruned, so next jobs will be digging over the veg beds and adding horse manure - I find that posts from the B***** forum are mostly fertiliser. After that it will be deciding what goes in.
But the next job is to cover the rhubarb, which needs to be done this week.

The big DIY stores only do plastic replacement sheets, which are good, but a bit of a pain to cut. I end up using a fine tooth hand saw, but you still might get cracks when cutting.
