I decided on a almost new Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10. Still cost £180.

Would have liked to have got a Ipad 3rd gen. but even second hand with damage they were £215ish.

There really is a market out there for these gadgets. I've never seen tech gear keep value this well.

Nexus are out of stock because the Nexus 9 is rumoured to be out in October.

I bought an LG Gpad 8.3" after I lost my Nexus7 to the kids, I've never looked back as it's superior in every way.

Even the LG bloatware is decent, I paid £119 6 months ago at Tesco but no idea what deals can be had today?

If you just want to stream, why not get an Apple TV? I also have a Blu Ray player that streams content, including Amazon, Netflix, iPlayer, etc

Because Apple is a pile of kak that only works if everything in your life is based on Apple stuff.

I know some people can deal with syncing their world to Apple, but I'm much more of a 'drag and drop, just get on with it' kinda person.

Amazon are currently doing the Kindle Fire HD (8Gb) for £89 rather than £119. It's Android but Amazon's slight tweak - not sure if that matters at all for your stated uses. In fact I think if you wanted to watch streaming video from Amazon - LoveFilm as it was previously - Fire is the ONLY Android tablet supporting this.

Just noticed this thread, £60 for a refurbed Tesco Hudl on their eBay outlet store.

Probably doesn't qualify as "best".

There was an Asus tablet I was going to get, until I realised it was only available in white so bought the Lenovo. The other question is which size, because 7" seems a waste of time to me (and the 10" tablet still seems quite small after a day spent looking at two 24" monitors).

I got a first generation one via Kickstarter and have been very pleased with it with my N10 and N5. Not that I really need it that much, to be honest.

Got one :-), Never use it though as the 32GB is doing me very well at the moment

We have a Nook and just got it rooted - wasn't THAT simple and took a fair amount of time. I suggest the Fire is better as it is still supported.

We just put Android on a friend's HP WebOS tablet and that went pretty smoothly

Nook HD+ 32GB - £149.99 at Argos (£50 cheaper than the Nook HD+ 16GB )

Both take an SD card and you can also put a custom ROM on there easily if you want to get rid of the Nook flavour of Android.

I didn't know there were any left! if you go to the NOOK online shop it only talk about the glowbook?

There is a new NOOK coming out, already been released in the USA. So I'm holding off on replacing mine. Wife hid it somewhere and can't remember where she put it!
