Uneventful drives to/from Sussex today.

Mum has taken to smashing mugs on the patio then complaining that mugs are going missing.

My brother goes on holiday on Saturday so I'll be staying with her to keep an eye on such shenanigans.

Lunch has been leftover belly pork bits from the other day in a bap (wholemeal, homemade) with apple sauce

The magpies were down on the lawn together! I think they’ve had to be going further afield because of the parched lawn having less of whatever it is they peck at down there, which is why they haven’t been around so much

I awoke bright and relatively early this morning, but managed to get back to sleep for another couple of hours

It’s sunny and Simpsonesque out at the moment, and the wind has dropped a bit. Currently 18°C, it’s expected to reach 21° by early afternoon. But then the rain is likely to return, and we even have a yellow warning for thunderstorms! The barometers are back up a bit at 996/1004mB

Today's dream before waking seemed to involve the cat and my failing to install a litter tray, followed by some strange goings on in next door's hall where the wallpaper was billowing off and strange people were banging on the wall in an attempt to get through. Very odd.

The attempt to return to the land of nod via "Pulse" was unsuccessful, and since there's someone living next door the permissible volume wasn't great. However I must have dozed for a while since I missed the bells on Time yet again.

Lunch: brunch. Bit earlier due to being up since sparrow fart.

Front bedroom windows closed for the first time in a couple of months. Winter must be on its way. .

The back bedroom tilt & turn was closing itself with the gusts, so I shut it properly.

The afternoon doze was accompanied by more of "Pulse", still no sign of "Time" since I put the wrong CD in the player and dozed off without realising. Hope next door enjoyed it. Not terribly keen on many of the tracks on there, so put the other CD in & listened to Comfortably Numb.

Tea: baked beans & baked spuds. Nice enough. Entertainment: some tosh on R4, followed by stuff off sounds that'll save me remembering tomorrow & Tuesday morning, one of which explained how Pat Buchanan led inexorably to the Orange mother****er. Predictably enough the Orange Mother****er hasn't an original thought in his orange syrup covered head. All together now: USA! USA! USA!.

Crashed B24 "Hot Garters" found off Hansa Bay, PNG, shot down by the Japanese: 4 bailed out which did them no favours since the Japs killed them, the other 8 went down with the B24. The remains were buried by PNG natives & dug uup for ID purposes & returned whence they'd come for burial. Glowing fungi in Indian forest. Cave found in Rondonia, Brazil: much discussion on what animal formed it.

The other day, Jo Kibble did one of his 24 hour bus challenges, which brought him to Leicester around 11 at night. Having a wait, he set off in search of sustenance which he found at Bombay Bites, an Indian fast food place with three branches in the city. I congratulated him on his choice and he said the food was absolutely delicious, and it reminded me that I haven’t had anything from there for a while. So this evening’s tea was brought from the branch that’s a bit closer to me, and he’s right - it’s really good stuff if you fancy some nice spicy “street food” as it’s apparently called nowadays

It’s a drizzly day here, with the bonus of possible thunderstorms. The 17°C we have at present apparently “feels like” 14°, but ti should be creeping up to 19° eventually. The barometers are down a bit more at 990/998mB

The lawn seems a little greener again. It occurred to me that I could photograph it each day to analyse the change in the ratio of brown to green areas. But I can’t be bothered

3 days to meself, loony lady free. Pretty heavy rain today, not sure if I'll get me walky. Been moaning for weeks about the sun, now I'm moaning about the rain. At my age, moaning is all one is good at. At least my water butts should be filled up.

Odd one in Tumble that looks like a bungalow from the front and proves to have another floor from the rear. I'm not sure that gold wall paint is quite to my taste, but I'm sure it would cream the Orange moron's jeans (just as well he wears nappies).

Catrefi Cymru: 1980s & 1990s houses: there's obviously money in this country, nice enough 1980s & 1990s houses, the best being a classically styled Georgian house which was absolukingfutely lovely. Ticked all my boxes about symmetry and the like. Georgious. See wot I did there? .

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: last bit of FOOC: Fray Bentos in Uruguay, Eastern Germany and the AFD. Moneybox: bailiffs <click>.

Walk (abbreviated, 3 miles) walked in the unexpectedly hot sunshine. Today's wildlife: a duck, some blue dragonflies & a red dragonfly.

Maigret on Holiday: S1 E10. The one where Madam Maigret is in hospital so he solves two murders to keep his hand in. .

That Japanese lunatic who was stilll fighting WWII in the Phillipines in the 1970s. The pre-radar Chain Home acoustic mirrors. And last, but not least, the lunacy of Camp Century and Operation Iceworm, or how the septics managed to pollute & irradiate Greenland.

Secret Wars. Nuclear standoff: nukes from Trinity to Fatboy in Korea. 2022 so Bunter, The Fat Owl of the Remove was still in place. Mildly inneresting. Pity about using Operation Crossroads tests to illustrate Castle Bravo, but there you go & there they went. .

There were a couple of heavy showers yesterday afternoon followed by light rain yesterday evening.

I might put my head outside to see if the farmers' market has returned now that the roadworks have finished. The council have done a nice job of improving the pavements and other bits around here over the past couple of months.

Tonight’s major motion picture premiere was The Long Walk (2025). I assumed, given its premise, that this would be post-apocalyptic mayhem, along the lines of the running man stuff, but it isn’t. It’s set in that kind of world, but it’s really about people and their relationships, in that world and in this. Well worth watching

And tonight’s rewatch was Ender's Game (2013) which I first watched back in 2019 and wasn’t very impressed by. But we live and learn, and I’ve realised that there were a number of things I watched back then and wasn’t that keen on for reasons that were more to do with me; I enjoyed it this time

Finally, another episode of For All Mankind. Still good, and I’m enjoying it, but I’m also wondering if I should go back to S2 of Silo. Or I suppose I could watch several things at once, like we used to do in the old days

The sun was covered up again for another session of heavy rain, and then it cleared up for a second time. No guarantees then

It went very dark, and then a torrential downpour started along with some thunder. But that only lasted about ten minutes before the rain stopped, though distant rumblings continued for another hour or more. And just now, also over the space of about ten minutes, it’s cleared up and is sunny!
