Shopping has been done at Not As Big Sainsbury's. As predicted, I didn't need very much of such things as they had, so there was a bit of a focus on stuff that's handy to have reserves of. I helped an elderly partially-sighted lady who was looking for skin-on chicken thighs while I was after the same thing, and my reward for this virtuous act was that the pack underneath the one I'd handed to her had a use-by date that was several days later than hers

The car didn't start first time outbound, but I heard the solenoid pop on the starter motor, so I think that was just due to it having been sitting outside in a week's worth of variable and not particularly nice weather. It fired up on the second go, and first time for the return journey

Now I need to think about lunch. N-A-B-S doesn't have a lukewarm food counter so there's no easy option

Max has just farted he's on the sofa at the far side of my office. I'm on a conference call and trying not to retch or cry.

The call is about the same topic that I have spent maybe 12 hours on calls this week and last. I've done the work I need to do, the others are arguing about their bits and what excuses they have for not doing them. Most of their "questions" are recorded in a spreadsheet, and each call they create a new column. They hide the previous day's column and type in new text. the rows are aligned with another spreadsheet. Each day the new text ends up almost identical to the previous day, because they have done nothing.
8 people on today's call (down from 15). So far my contribution has been: Yes I've done what I've been asked to do. No, I cannot design the technicalities of your system for you. Yes, I can guide you on how the business and other systems, if you want to listen.

Meanwhile on the 20th of December 2019 NF had M&S haddock & M&S crinkly chips, though the origin of the beans was unstated, whereas BR14 had something else with brown sauce in tribute to the ailing Brillo, and I had almost watched all of S5 of Angel and was contemplating S2 of Joan of Arcadia and didn't watch "Peeping Tom (1960)" on the vintage film channel of yore.

Grey day out but dry withal - maybe a bit of a heavy dew, but no rain. Reasonably mild for the time of year too, being 3°C (though said to "feel like" 0°) with an expected high of 6° this afternoon. The barometers are up a bit more at 1023/1031mB

I still haven't decided whether to go shopping today but I probably will even if I don't need to, just out of habit

It's interesting to read about various aspects of it all that were glossed over or omitted entirely from the film. Once I've finished the book, I think I'll watch the film again for purposes of comparison

Not for everyone though.

I’m hoping there’s another one. That lead actor - Daniel Craig - does a great southern drawl. A few more roles for him and he might become well known.

I remember that. I think there was a sequel mooted at some point?

HWMBO and I have had a very nice, relaxing day. Topped off with a lovely dinner at a place over the road from the hotel that looks, on paper, to be a potentially dodgy tourist trap but actually turned out to do delicious food with a great choice of wine.

Giving up with the little writing group, just me and other bloke there again.

Bing are retiring the Bing maps API at end of June, was going to do the migration to Azure Maps but it won't have OS maps so no point for us walky people. Still, can do fair amount of stuff with Garmin Basecamp. Another annoying technical thing is a Google update for my Pixel 4a which, according to some comments, renders it practically useless. Darn good thing I had mine in developer mode with updates turned off.

I heard the lift going earlier, so an engineer must have been! No idea if they've managed to fix it, mind. Nobody seems to have used it since, but a lot of people use the stairs anyway most of the time, so it isn't unusual to only hear it a couple of times a day.

We had a lovely day yesterday; mooched about the town, bought swimming costumes. Then headed back there in the evening for a fantastic dinner.
