Tea has been lamb chops with chips and beans

The chops were from July, when I froze them, so that frees up a little more space in the freezer

In amongst the post was a Notice of Intended Prosecution from the Police. I was snapped crossing the lights 1.1s after they had changed to red.

Dammit. My first offence in 30 years of driving.

Lunch wasn’t, because I went to Not-as-Big Sainsbury’s and did the shopping

It was raining heavily all morning and until I got back, when it started to ease off. As of now, there are some bits of blue sky, but also warnings of more showers

One of the magpies was just down on the lawn; the male from our resident couple, I think. I realised when watching it fly up to rootle around in the top of one of the downpipes of the block opposite that I’d got their wing feathers the wrong way round - theirs are black at the bird end and white at the other end. Pigeons are the other way round, so it seems likely that the unfortunate bird whose remains, such as they were, were scattered across the lawn yesterday was indeed a pigeon

I’ll still be happier once I see the two magpies down there together though

Walk (abbreviated, 3 miles) walked in the grey gloom, wan sunshine, and high humidity. Like a gorilla's armpit out there this morning.

Lunch: brunch. Entertainment: Dashcam bollox. Hadn't seen that one before. Loved the concrete road without expansion joints. So that's why they put expansion joints in concrete roads. .

Hammering down now: rivers flowing down the gutters in the road. Thankfully the drains seem to be coping at the moment. Unlike those in Birmingham.

Morning denizens

It’s a grey day, and drizzle has just turned to rain, heralded by a prolonged peal of thun her a few minutes ago. It’s also achieved the uncommon feat of getting darker over the last hour or so. The rain is likely to continue through the morning and possibly into the evening. It’s currently 17°C with an expected high of 21° and the barometers are down to 998/1005mB

I haven’t decided yet whether to squeeze the shopping in at lunchtime, as it depends partly on work and also on whether I feel like driving in whatever the conditions turn out to be then

Tea has been oniony chicken casserole out of the freezer, with chips and peas

This was accompanied by Murder 24/7 on iPlayer, being part one of an investigation into the murder of some poor sod in Hereford

Having spent most of the week investigating the weird figures that were appearing in data, I just discovered that there’s already a command to recalculate them! It’s not properly documented anywhere, of course; I found it by searching for places where a particular function was used. I just ran it on our hotfix environment and it fixed everything, so I'm hoping that’s the end of that problem

It’s turned quite Simpsonesque out now

I’m worried that the bird that met its demise on the lawn earlier today (or last night) might have been one of the magpies rather than a pigeon. I got the binoculars out and had a look at the fragment of wing that was lying on the lawn, and the feathers were very dark at the end, changing to white nearer where they would have been attached to the bird. But it did look more dark grey than black, and pigeon wings can look like that too, judging by some that just flew past

One of the magpies, which I think is the male, was just hopping around down on the lawn on its own. But they don’t always show up as a couple. I’ll have to keep an eye out over the next few days

This was one of the freshly baked baps made this morning, and they’ve turned out very well
