I think the cameras are all tweaked to a point where false alarms are minimal but now need to see if some of the features actually trigger properly. I need to get my brother to smash some glass to see if it triggers a critical alert

Afternoon all

Blue sky with a mix of fluffy and wispy cloud. Currently 17 degrees with a high of 18 expected. Barometer up to 1021 mBar.

Setting up the Ubiquiti kit (two cameras and a doorbell) was straightforward enough from a software perspective but a faff from a physical one. My brother had to do the worst job of crawling around the loft (it's not boarded out but is chock full of fluffy insulation) and discovering there were little or no joists above the kitchen ceiling. HWMBO did the initial config and made up all the network cables (we only needed three) and I read the instructions and held ladders. It was a long day but it's all up and running and now I'm just fine-tuning the alerts.

The most fun I had was seeing my brother standing outside the front door having a ciggie later in the evening and me shouting at him to 'feck off' through the doorbell from home.

Today, I attended a meeting for gig1 (billable presenteeism) followed by sorting out some admin for my Mum with HMRC. Shockingly, I got through to a human with minimal wait time.

Mr Raney managed to get a quip in about playing banjos. . Family living in an old bus, a shack, and a car for 2 years: no water, no power, no nothing. They built a yurt (of sorts), a bigger toolshed, and moved another building close to the yurt. The drill casing in a hollow 100 yds from said yurt turned out to have potable water, gallons of it, so a feed pipe & power cable for the pump were installed. It's amazing how this programme gets septics to donate stuff: I suppose it's free advertising.

Discovered the other day that I can't see the iron sights on one of my rifles: rather it's that there's a choice of two or three for the foresight & the rear sight. Things get marginally better with a 1.2 dioptre reading glass: I can see the sights, just can't see much of the target. Ain't it great getting old? . On the other hand the telescopic sight on the other rifle is just fine: can see everything clearly (now the rain has gone).

It's quite odd: after the shopping trips I felt fine, after a couple of hours in here the coughing is back.

As usual, some excellent characters and humour
