Tonight’s motion picture premiere was Crawl (2019) in which a young lady and her father find a way to patch up their fractured relationship by dint of being trapped in the underfloor crawlspace of their Florida home with more than one alligator during a Cat-5 hurricane and the floods attendant thereon. It’s all a bit bitey, as one might expect, and none the worse for that. Apparently there’s a sequel due next year, and I expect - nay, demand - that the continuity people will have all the right scars in all the right places for such of the characters as are in it. There were only her and him left at the end anyway, so that doesn’t seem like too much to ask

And then a rewatch of Whiplash (2014) because it’s excellent; you don’t even have to be in to jazz to appreciate this one

Finally, not one but two episodes of Dark Matter (TV Series 2024– ) being S1E4 and S1E5. I’m less ambivalent about this now because it feels like it’s finally starting to go somewhere with its underlying concept. I reckoned from the fourth one that they should have squeezed all the stuff in the first three into E1, but E5 left me thinking that maybe it needed at least E1 and E2? I still think they could have moved the early stuff along faster, but at least it’s all coming together now

Alaska Homestead Rescue thingie: Hawaii: Kaiai. Goodness me, homestead owned by Graham Nash's (yes that one) estranged son & daughter in law. It's a bit wet. Another homestead in a bog/marsh/swamp (*delete where applicable) in a hook in a stream that turns into a raging torrent quite frequently. Added attractions: wild pigs doing wild piggy sorts of things such as eating everything in sight, and an invasive grass, plus invasive African trees. Whereas yesterday's epic spent a lot of time on slugs & rat lung disease, this one never mentioned it.

Tea: chilli con carne etc. Nice enough.

Tonight’s motion picture premiere was 6 Days (2017), a dramatisation of the Iranian Embassy siege in 1980, mainly about the SAS’s role. I read Ben Macintyre’s book on the subject fairly recently, and on that basis I’d say it stayed pretty close to the facts. But obviously they have to make it into a film people enjoy watching, which means changing a few things; which is why it's a dramatisation, not a documentary

Just popped over to the bins with a couple of bags of recycling I felt were above and beyond what I can reasonably expect the servants management company people to deal with when they come round collecting in the morning, there having been a few items of printing equipment delivered in recent weeks that came with a lot of cardboard by way of packaging. It’s very nice out there, and not at all chilly even though I was in a t-shirt. I should go out and get some fresh air more often

Tea has been Sainsbury’s slow-cooked beef cheeks, braised in Rioja, with a shallot and pepper sauce; with chips and peas. It was really nice - even better than I expected

Another week done!

No lunch again as I did the shopping at Not-as-Big Sainsbury’s, which took considerably longer than expected because of roadworks

I was later than usual setting off because I realised I hadn’t done the car’s tyres since one of the very hot spells, so their pressures were all a bit under in the cooler weather due to Boyle’s Law. Once they were topped up, I set off; but lane closures along the A6 meant I didn’t even get to the shop until around the time I’d normally expect to be leaving again

But the shopping was done, and put away, and after an afternoon of deploying patches and such, I ended up on a call with the other devs which lasted until just now. So I think the time was just about made up - not that anyone cares

Alaska Homestead thing: Hawaii homestead infested with rat lung round worm carrying slugs. Lovely. Don't look it up it's fecking disgusting. Not convinced that a flying vegetable garden is particularly sensible. But what do I know? Stone me. Lovely. Feck me: Misty was really lucky when that steel cable on the hanging vegetable bed let go: you need to remove the plastic coating before using those cable clamp thingies. There are some really generous people associated with this programme: free roofing sheets, free solar powered electrical installation. Curiously the new lights seem to be halogen rather than CFL or LED. Amazing. Must have cost thousands (even if they are dollars). Those fecking slugs are really nasty. 15 or more infections a year.

Orange Moron thinks that Xi likes him rather than considering him an escapee from a lunatic asylum. Completely different from Putin of course, who regards him as a Russian Asset.

Bab5 S4 E12 "Conflicts of Innerest": Mr Garibaldi smuggling his ex from Mars. Another Zathras appears.

Felt really really tired so listened some nonsense on R4 whilst dozing a bit. Very odd. Wonder if I'm dying.

Now watching some lunes who've bought a Lancia Beta for a mere £6,950. I thought they'd all fallen in half by now.

Most importantly: it’s Thursday!

And it’s also Tech Debt Thursday, though that’s a bit meaningless this week as just about all the work in hand on this project either has been or could be categorised as tech debt. I just hope the wider team don’t come up with something we should all be involved in and leave me to get on with it; there’s supposed to only be a week left on this thing, and a very important feature that had been stalled waiting on others suddenly got back into gear this week, and is the kind of thing that could easily turn out to take a couple of weeks just for the back-and-forthing
