    Absolutely. In such circumstances I make a list of assumptions in said report so it's there in black and white for everyone in the future to go Doh!

    Not quite. You should offer an opinion of why its a stupid idea knowing that it will be ignored. Then implement exactly what they asked for before watching the entertainment as it dawns on them you were right in the first place.
