There is no one market, making this kind of thread meaningless unless you specify which market you are talking about. The market for skill A might be booming and for skill B there might be nothing.

So for one of the agents is like going back to the 1990's wanting proper references before putting me forward.
No problem with that I know the client, another contractor I've previously worked with is already there and its as local as I will sensibly get and the calls are actual reference calls rather than attempted sales calls but I'm struggling to see what the calls actually achieve.
Previous manager is now a friend, contractor who is already there wants another competent person and friendly face to chat to and I was sat 3 feet away when the other reference was taken.....

Whether I get it or not doesn't make a difference to the fact I am interviewing for a genuine role at a rate so high I might cry. Good signs. However, I think the market is demanding the experience and skills which is probably why the market is looking good to us....
