The main way of cloning is via skimming. Whether this is via a POS terminal or a bank machine that has been compromised. However, in some cases, the details are taken from over the phone, so some transactions are done with payer absent.

with me I was in South Africa and they did a carbon form of my card at the Airport (I think that was the only one) and then I apparently started buying gear all over Africa.

Money back in my account in a couple of days.

Chip & Pin does seem to cutting this type of fraud.

I had them take a couple of grand from my account once. I just phoned the bank, they put the money straight back and that was the last I heard of it.

This might be a technicality but you didn't beat the fraudsters, they had £30 off you.

    Just saying, like.

In defense of fraudsters they had no idea whose identity they were stealing...

I was the victim of identity theft earlier this year. Credit cards taken out in my name, store cards, mail order accounts. Taking months and months to sort out. And of course just when I started working in Germany and could have done with a line of credit to tide me over until the first invoice was paid (2 months wait, all flights and accommodation to find after being on the bench for 2 months)

Very frustrating and sorry to hear that bud. Glad the damage was minimal. I'd get your experian report just in case (to be fair supposed to do this every 6 months anyway).

    Good luck

You're implying there was a whole lot more in the business account. Let me think - £31?
