In the UAE they're very strict on medicines being brought in to the country and if it's not something for which you have a prescription it's best to leave it at home. If you need an aspirin on the plane, ask the stewardess, and if you need aspirin once you get there, visit a chemist or a drugstore; they sell pretty much everything you can buy in the UK. In fact, you can buy them in the airport.

Getting drunk is a bad idea unless it's in private.

no they are really tough on non prescription (and some prescription drugs) at customs, to the point they have locked people up for aspirins.

ok in which case then go.

AFAIR (was brother in law that did it) become non resident. You will have to pay tax for uk based earnings (renting your house out).

You will need to pay for schools & healthcare as well.

...and a list of communist countries with lower marginal tax rates than the UK ormost places in western Europe? It would include Cuba, Venezuela and China.

So how does it work? If you take a permie job in a gulf state which is tax free what do you need to do to avoid being liable for any tax in the UK? Do you have to be out of the country for a full tax year etc?

    Just interested…
I'm interested to find out too; much as I find Dubai a bit tasteless, I'd consider it given the interminable tax rises here in Euroland.
