They do have a decent sevens side, filled up with old internationals from overseas. The Dubai Wasps club is run by Trevor Leota, known at the Amsterdam Sevens for eating his special kebab snack; three full sized grilled chickens on a skewer.Originally posted by MyUserName View PostI always wondered why they did not have much of a rugby team ....

In the UAE they're very strict on medicines being brought in to the country and if it's not something for which you have a prescription it's best to leave it at home. If you need an aspirin on the plane, ask the stewardess, and if you need aspirin once you get there, visit a chemist or a drugstore; they sell pretty much everything you can buy in the UK. In fact, you can buy them in the airport.Originally posted by OwlHoot View PostWhat do they have against aspirins? Or is the implication that you should avoid hangovers?

no they are really tough on non prescription (and some prescription drugs) at customs, to the point they have locked people up for aspirins.Originally posted by OwlHoot View PostWhat do they have against aspirins? Or is the implication that you should avoid hangovers?

how do you avoid uk tax? thats the question...
AFAIR (was brother in law that did it) become non resident. You will have to pay tax for uk based earnings (renting your house out).
You will need to pay for schools & healthcare as well.

I'm interested to find out too; much as I find Dubai a bit tasteless, I'd consider it given the interminable tax rises here in Euroland.Originally posted by CoolCat View PostTax Free Salary in Gulf State
So how does it work? If you take a permie job in a gulf state which is tax free what do you need to do to avoid being liable for any tax in the UK? Do you have to be out of the country for a full tax year etc?
Just interested…
