But you wouldn't say it. Not sure where left foot comes into it, I thought we all had flash sequential gearboxes in our contractor mobiles.

Once again: If you have a small child in the back of your car and you are traveling on the M4, just approaching junction 14 traveling westbound. If that child were to say: "daddy I need a wee NOW!!!" you can make the service station at Membury in a matter of minutes. (with a heavy left foot assumed)Originally posted by doodab View PostI'm not convinced. Protracted is a temporal adjective, it's wrong in the same way one wouldn't say one had been waiting for miles.
That child has literally waited miles for a wee

If English is not your first language then you should invest in a Thesaurus. May I recommend the Collins Thesaurus of the English Language which defines "protracted" as:
extended, long, prolonged, lengthy, never-ending, drawn-out, interminable, spun out, dragged out, overlong.I hope that helps.

The crash site was a protracted distance in length.
vs
The cash site spans quite a distance and contains over 70 vehicles across all the lanes...
Easy to dissect after the fact but not so easy on the fly with a camera or microphone in your face.
