What a delightfully partisan bien pensant you are. I wonder whether you will share the same sentiments with Brown or Blair.

Wasn't Charles Darwin ordered to have a state funeral and burial at Westminster Abbey against his wishes? I believe he waned to be buried somewhere else, but after his death it was decided/ or it was ordered that he should be buried at Westminster Abbey?

Not sure if this story is true...

Anyway what I mean is perhaps Maggie didn't have a choice to decline the offer of a state funeral?

I did hear on 5Live last week that it's almost a state funeral possibly due to the Queen and Phil the Greek attending, who have not attended a PM funeral since Churchill.

Apparently when MT was in power she and HM didn't get on that well, but due to MT's declining health in last 10 or so years (same age as HM?) she looked out for her at events/functions and they became quite pally.

Maybe that's why he got us in this mess.

Hopefully Blair will die in violent way leaving nothing to bury.

He doesn't need to be dead, just in a coffin with a screwed down lid.

P.S. If it's an Iron Coffin With Spikes On The Inside, so much the betterer.
John "Iron-Mad" Wilkinson (1728 – 1808), the chap who built the bridge at Ironbridge had his coffin made of cast iron.

    He presumably Rusted In Place.

Nah, it's only if you actually won a victory.

OTOH, I could be magnanimous and let him have a military funeral, as long as it's now - before any of his wars go down as a loss.
