Bobs that work for your bank sell your credit card and phone numbers for cheapness to anyone that will buy it.
The DVLC sell your number to anyone that will buy it.
The council whose roll you are on sell your number to anyone that will buy it.

.gov.uk couldn't give a stuff as long as the money is flowing and they are getting a cut.

The answer to such a Bob related call is: are your parents proud of your job?

The trouble is that it doesn't make them run up huge phone bills nowadays.

VOIP and cut rate blocks of call time make the telco costs of these campaigns relatively cheap.

I don't think you'd get a signal in the bogs at Waterloo station. Like Victoria, Charing Cross, Paddington, and Kings Cross they're underground.

+1. the only way to actually solve the issue is to proceed down the line until you find the name of the law firm who is paying for the leads and then shop them to the commissioner.

I thought they got computers to generate all possible phone numbers and call them? That being why giving nobody your number doesn't avoid the nuisance calls.

Maybe if we bombarded them with zillions of data protection act requests they would ignore them. Maybe they are not within the jurisdiction of our laws.
