I was invited to a private party tonight in 'Silicon Valley'. On arrival it was pretty obvious that this was a 'showy' do. One by one I was introduced to CTO A, startup B, VP C, entrepreneur D. After being challenged at least three times about being a 'mere contractor turned perm', I bought up my little retail shops and that I was happy in my lot. All in vain.

One guy who was actually really nice who owned a company of 3000 was cowed down by the next who was CEO of another of 140000. I fooked off at the point.

What am I doing here?

Once you have factored in the usual such as 46 weeks per year, pension, company NI etc, then you are on a rough equivalent of £50k p.a. Wouldn't you be better off getting a permie job for that?

Do your maths again and then come back with the right number.

Why are folks with families entitled to a non-frugal life? If they want to live a luxury lifestyle they should both work and not have kids.

But anyway up here you don't need a big mortgage. £150k will get you a perfectly nice 3 bed detached house with a decent garden a handful of miles out of town.

I find that that seems to make a pretty effective job of burning through my income!

I found bootstrapping plan b while working was a very effective method until it started earning money.
