Seriously? They drug test contractors?

I am surprised by your surprise, For anyone working longer than 3 months direct to us part of the T&C is that they will have a test & if they fail the offer is terminated. This applies to all staff not just those on site, so HR, admin ICT etc..

D&A tests are normal in construction regardless of employment status, after finding some “suspicions packages” in the drying room on site we called the nurse in & did a full site drugs test. 5 men are no longer working.

No animosity, just suggesting that you remember what contracting's like; you wait for a while for a contract, get 'no' for silly reasons from agents and then three opportunities turn up at once. One of them is a tulipe rate, one of them demands you hang around waiting for 2 weeks (2 weeks! You could make some phone calls to earlier customers in 2 hours and find put if he's any good), one of them is immediate start at a good rate; which one do you choose? 2 weeks of doing nothing costs a lot of money, and you don't know what kind of BS people are going to give while the checks are going on, or whether the contract might be pulled by some cost cutting 'senior manager'. While YOU may be trustworthy, some clients and agents aren't, so try and understand the contractor's position.

My fookin US contractor has decided not to turn up to site on Tuesday stating that he picked up another role in the two weeks it took to 'drugs test and background check' him for this role, having a dig stating that it was a joke he had to take a drugs test.

In other news, one of my permies has gone AWOL for two days after a bad review! WTF is wrong with people!!!
