That is confusing. The term state capitalism has historically been used to describe communist states, where (it is argued) capital had not been abolished but acquired by the state for control by an élite. China is not now a state capitalist state but an authoritarian one party capitalist state. It has a certain amount in common politically with sub-fascist states like Pinochet's Chile - at least in terms of where it is now. In terms of direction of travel, that is a whole different ball game.Originally posted by xoggoth View PostPS Actually, having undertaken extensive research on Chomski's views (at least 20s on Wikipedia) since posting above, I am not sure he is such a lefty idiot and maybe some of his ideas deserve more detailed consideration (at least 2 min on Wikipedia). It's just that some prominent lefty idiots, like Chavez, claim to idolise him.
One glaring problem is his opposition to state capitalism, epitomised by China. For all the corruption, it's a system that seems to be working quite well for its people. A bloody site better than real communism anyway.

Chomsky eh? Whatever he thinks/suggests, the reality/workable solution will be the opposite. Like most socialists really, no matter how intelliigent they are. Succesful human societies are based on realities, not ideals.
Pity we can't find that Star Trek-type device to create infinite wormholes to other habitable worlds and we could all go to one of our own choosing with those who broadly think like us. Give it 5000 years and the really socialist worlds would be barren wastes.Last edited by xoggoth; 17 November 2012, 18:55.
