During this time I want to go and work in a different company on a contract basis for 8 months. I have couple of questions. Can you please advice me?

    1) Can I work as a contractor?
    2) What is about HMRC? As I am not getting the P45, who am I going to my pay tax?
    3) What happens to my NI contribution?

    Many thanks,
I am seriously looking for a solution and unfortunately the discussion ended up some where. I want to share some more details here. I got my British passport last year. I am a permanent employee on PAYE. I am having some problems with my manager, but I don't want to resign from the company. I am searching for jobs and did not get a suitable one sofar. So I want to take a career break for a year where I can return to work at any time with a short notice. I want to take a break for couple of months and search for work again as a contractor or a permanent position. If I get a good one I want to resign from the company. Many things can happen in one year. Please advice me pros and cons with my decision and guide me with a meaningful solution.

Right. So posting deliberately misleading answers which then get indexed by the search engine helps this. Hmmm.

If he thinks a little bit next time and does some research before posting I think we have taught him infinitely more than he would have learned from his thread.

What I did was ask a question. I realise you may still be a little raw from the widespread and justified criticism of your unfathomable decision to ban Clippy last week, but that's no reason to go jumping down anyone else's throat for asking a civil question.

If this was first posted in General, then it's more understandable that it could be identified as a trolling attempt. Although, for a person's first post, I'd personally still be inclined to give them the benefit of any doubt. I have a rule in life that I treat people with respect, until and unless they prove to me by their actions that they don't deserve it. Asking one (not very) naive question doesn't cross that threshold.

By the time I saw this thread, it had been moved from Business/Contracts into General, along with your statement, "I cordially introduce you to General". That was the only moderation comment in the thread at the time. So hopefully you can understand why I thought you had introduced it to General as opposed to merely undoing another moderator's decision.

As for undoing another moderator's decision merely because someone else complained about it, isn't complaining about moderation decisions on here usually referred to as "bed wetting"? I guess going back to NAT's comment that must mean that you guys don't moderate or make decisions on this forum either: whomever shouts loudest and appears to have the majority of the mob behind them seems to be the person you guys listen to at the time, even if it means undoing one of your peer's decisions.

You do know you're coming across as that common cliche: the frustrated spinster?

Objection sustained !! Please accept my humble apologies. I forgot to ascertain the really important facts first. Beginners mistake. Steps have been put in place to ensure lessons are learned from this

Oh, and to keep this on topic, before answering any questions from the OP regarding what they can and can't do, the Visa position needs to be ascertained. All other answers are conjecture and bluster until that is established.
