I think anything involving nuclear power is fairly lucrative. I had a job interview (trainee nuclear engineer) with BNFL a few years back. Got offered the gig but turned it down.

Nulear sector pay is poor. The long term nature of the jobs means folks sit there for years, hence no need to pay good rates.

You can live expensive or you can live cheap in CH, choice is yours.

I have saved a lot in the past year, but plan to spend it traveling Nov.- March.

Will need a job when I get back, hope there has not been a further melt down by then.

I am seeing one year contracts @650 a day at the moment on Jobserve in oil / gas

O&G pays top dollar if you work for an operator. £600 to £700 per day is typical for London, a bit less for Aberdeen. Operators like day rates, contracting co's usually pay by the hour. Oil services contractor co's pay a bit less, up to about £65 per hour in London, a bit lower in Aberdeen. By far the best rates at the moment in the world are in Australia where AUD1500/day is often paid. Process Engineers usually get the highest rates along with the likes of Drilling Engineers but those guys are often out in the desert or some god forsaken place.

My latest was for just under 1k a day and €440 a day expenses. Sadly it was only for 3 days but they have another 3x3 day ones coming up
