Agreed black tie. You're never overdressed. Everytime I go somewhere posh and I dress down a I always regret it. Go there in the poshest Tuxedo you can find. I guarantee the ones wearing normal suits will be feeling slightly self-conscious. If they say black-tie, then it is going to be a very posh do.

I wouldn't mind taking the boys out and playing our 50's rock'n'roll and upbeat Swing out at one of these do's, dressed up like Buddy Holly. Perhaps hire a gretsch white falcon:

I would wear the DJ for sure. I've never got the hang of tying a bow-tie though. I always wear the elasticated version like a 5 year old. I will check out the instructional videos though, and the ones about bow-ties.

I'm sure Mrs L will appreciate the effort.

That's exactly what I did at a gig a few weeks ago.... I thought I was the only one who knew about that trick

It took me about an hour to get a good bow tie the first time I tied a proper one. Now I'm slick, and have got it down to a tee....it now takes me just 50 minutes to get a good one...

Last time I went to a Black Tie Optional thing, I was the only bloke not in black tie.

The few times i went in a suit to these does I felt under dressed and people have commented they wished they went for a tux when they arrived in a suit.

I love black tie balls so any opportunity for me though. I also have my own as well so don't have to bother with rentals.

If you don't fall in to either of those I would toss a coin.

If you do go suit only get a decent one. Nothing worse than seeing people in out dated suits or their work ones. It stands out a mile even they don't think so. Cheapskates.
