French has douzaine. In Switzerland I've seen them in packs of 4, 6, 10, 15. You can also pick your own out of a tray. "Picnic eggs" are hard boiled and painted pretty colours. They come in boxes of 6. They do however indicate either the average or minimum weight of each egg.Originally posted by doodab View PostThis will never get past the Germans.
In Germany eggs come in packs of six or twelve, and they have a word Dutzend for a dozen.
How many are there in a complete tray?Last edited by Sysman; 29 June 2010, 13:14.

Something I've found is that they break about 40% of them before they reach the shelf. They then randomly consolidate the remainder and sell them, which means that it's not uncommon to get a box of nice free range organic eggs that has a couple of pauper eggs hidden in it.Originally posted by Pondlife View PostI bought a box of 4 the other day.

So, the only difference will be that the words "Dozen" and "Half Dozen" will be dropped. There'll still be a convenient number of eggs in a box, be it 6, 10, 12 etc.
All just jingoistic tulipe!
