In Germany eggs come in packs of six or twelve, and they have a word Dutzend for a dozen.

French has douzaine. In Switzerland I've seen them in packs of 4, 6, 10, 15. You can also pick your own out of a tray. "Picnic eggs" are hard boiled and painted pretty colours. They come in boxes of 6. They do however indicate either the average or minimum weight of each egg.

Something I've found is that they break about 40% of them before they reach the shelf. They then randomly consolidate the remainder and sell them, which means that it's not uncommon to get a box of nice free range organic eggs that has a couple of pauper eggs hidden in it.
